ANNA MAURY (Mârrie)
Introducing the next R&B/Pop talent Miss Anna Maury. From Chicago born and raised Anna was influenced by music from a very young age. Her father was a singer and dancer who played the guitar and her mother got her involved in many activities such as music, dance and sports. Anna loved to sing since she was a little girl. Anna’s experience performing in front of a crowd began when she and a couple friends from grade school performed “Memories” from the musical “Cats” in an eighth grade talent show. Since then she had a strong passion for singing and music but in high school became very involved in school and sports. She did however organize the first talent show in her high school where she sang “Open Arms”.
Although Anna didn’t immediately pursue music as her career, she continued to win talent shows and sing in various functions. Whenever she sang, she wowed the audience with her voice, yet she struggled with pursuing music full-time. With some encouragement from her family Anna took voice and instrument instruction in college and eventually joined the South Shore Cultural Center Choir. That organization soon showcased the talented young Soprano in their yearly Christmas program at the prestigious Symphony Center in Downtown Chicago.
Anna was obviously talented in the classical genre but her love for R&B, pop and hip-hop was impossible to deny. She began performing as a solo act in local showcases and talent shows excersizing her R&B skills and found immediate success. When she asked about the hardest part of music for her Anna was very frank “I’m my own worst critic, that is because it is so close to my heart. I don’t want to let the audience down and I don’t want to let myself down”. So far Anna has not let the audience down. She was then offered a couple independent record deals from local labels but she decided to hold out for a greater opportunity. Anna is strongly influenced by almost all genres of music but Envogue, Mariah Carey, Madonna and Janet Jackson are a few. Anna’s voice mixes the qualities of Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Etta James and Whitney Houston with music that meshes a strong urban feel of R&B, pop with some hip hop flavor. “ I want to bring strong vocals back to the table with urban instrumentals that you can dance to, love to and cry to”.
